Character in the boldest way

Orin Swift wines are known to be unashamedly bold in color, body and character.  While a number of their wines are from Napa Valley, they also source fruit from over 100 vineyards throughout California focusing on Rhone-style blends, Napa Cabernets and old vine Grenache.  Many of the wines are made from a mash up of grapes including lesser-known varieties such as Charbono.  Winemaker David Phinney's philosophy is simple: to find the best grapes they can get their hands on, let them hang long enough to become perfectly ripe, then express their character in the boldest way possible.

From student to winemaker

After a semester of "studying" abroad, David Swift Phinney was hooked on the art of winemaking. He graduated and began working as a temporary harvest worker at the Robert Mondavi Winery where he eventually realized that if he was going to work this hard, it would have to be for himself. Therefore, he took on the task of founding Orin Swift Cellars in 1998; paying tribute to his father’s middle name (Orin) and his mother’s maiden name (Swift).
